'A Little Princess' - by Francis Hodgeson Burnett.
storytelling, whose life drastically changes from "Princess" status at Miss Minchin's select seminary for young ladies, in London, to charity child, servant and errand girl, when her Father dies. She keeps up her morale as best as she can by pretending she is still a Princess, until eventually her father's business partner, who has been looking for her for two years, finds her. She no longer has to pretend, she is now heiress to diamond mines. Mrs. Minchin, who treated her so dreadfully receives a shock at the news. It is a story full of magic, with Ram Dam transforming Sarah's attic garret mysteriously into a cosy, warm room, while she sleeps. Sarahs belief in magic always seems to come true. |
